Diplomat Deli

Photography by Honeysuckle Life.

Diplomat Deli in Vestavia is one of those hole-in-the-wall restaurants only the locals know about. It’s not likely to be featured in magazines, and the decor is somewhat shabby. It’s not hip or fancy. So why is it so popular? First, it used to be a package store, so the wine and beer selection is extensive and unique. Second, the menu is perfectly deli-ish. Yes, I just made up that word. But if you love sandwiches, this is the place to go. From the Californian Turkey, with sprouts and pepper jelly, to the Pimento Cheese BLT, each sandwich is delicious. My personal favorite? Chili (served during the winter months) and the Grilled Cheese on Sourdough Bread.
