Creating an Office Closet

Working from home comes with its own set of unique challenges. Mostly, how you get any work done when the laundry is dirty, the floor needs to be swept, the milk is out, and errands need to be run. After a year of moving from table to table, trying to find the perfect office solution, we finally turned one of our storage closets into an office for myself. I can’t tell you how much this has improved my productivity.

Pencils and markers become colorful collections in a Asker porcelain container hanging from a Bygel rack.

A recovered chair becomes stylish, while a Micke moving drawer system becomes storage for sewing supplies. Easy to roll out to a larger table.

A magnetic board is perfect for posting ideas for DIY projects and dinner parties.

Business and etiquette books neatly stacked provide a wealth of resources while researching projects.

And writing books provide information and prompts when I’m experiencing writer’s block.

For a little bit of money, I now have a place to call my own. And at the end of the day, I can turn off the lights and shut the doors. Closing off my work from home life.

The closet was a traditional American size, just under 2′ by . Perhaps 2′ by 6′. I didn’t measure! But it fit an Ikea Micke desk in it, which is about 20″ in depth.
